From annual physical exams to diet and dental care, regularly taking an active role in your pet’s health care regimen is the easiest and most effective way to keep your pet healthy and happy.
At Parker & Ace, we take time to get to know our patients, and create a personalized wellness plan based on their age, breed, lifestyle, behavior and specific nutritional needs.
The sooner we can assess your pet, and regularly monitor them, the better. Because, proactive treatment is likely to be most effective—and less costly–over time.
Cat got their tongue?
Animals have evolved to mask any signs of injury or illness so they will not be left behind by their pack or appear vulnerable to predators. That means it might be harder to recognize if or when an issue arises.
The good news is, many canine and feline diseases are easily preventable and most can be effectively treated and cured if detected early enough. However, if allowed to develop and progress unchecked, many diseases can quickly become difficult and expensive to treat, and in some cases incurable.
Therefore, we strongly encourage every pet owner to take a proactive approach to preventive care.
Our comprehensive wellness programs typically consist of:
Time built into every appointment for education by our staff and a library of curated resources on the P&A website to provide you with relevant information about pet behavior, nutrition, diseases, medications and potential toxins.
24/7 teletriage with a Parker & Ace vet team member & virtual telemedicine appointments from the comfort of your home.
Recommendations for at-home care across weight loss, diet, dental, and more.
At Parker & Ace, our annual membership covers as many office visits as you need throughout the year. We do this so that you can bring your pet to see us whenever there is a concern and to minimize worries about potential costs.
Taking an active role in your pet’s wellness program begins with visits to Parker & Ace for periodic physical exams. Based on age, gender, breed, health status and pre-existing conditions, we will develop a specific plan for your pet.
The physical exam is a comprehensive assessment of your pet's health. It’s also an opportunity for you to provide us with key information to help us to assess your pet's health.
The Process
Parker & Ace veterinarians will ask you specific questions and your answers will help guide the examination—all in an effort to assess overall health and reveal developing health issues that can easily go unnoticed.
During the physical exam, we will review various aspects of your pet's health, including:
- Personalized Vaccination Plan
- Diagnostic Wellness Screening
- Parasite Screening and Prevention
- Nutrition
- Exercise
- Behavior
After the physical exam, our veterinarian will discuss with you the findings and what, if anything, should be done to keep your pet in optimal health.
Has this service perked your ears?
Vaccinations are a foundational and critically important part of the preventive care plan. Generally, a vaccine protocol consists of a series of immunizations given to your pet as a puppy or kitten, boosters at one year and then periodically throughout its lifetime.
At Parker & Ace, we develop a personalized vaccine plan for your pet based on geographic location, risk, lifestyle and pre-existing medical conditions.
The vaccinations we recommend will prevent diseases that are a serious threat to the health, longevity and quality of life of your pet.
Keep in mind: We don’t automatically vaccinate all pets for everything, every year. We try our best to not over vaccinate pets and offer vaccine titers to assess your pet’s immunity rather than just routinely vaccinate.
Protecting your pet from fleas and ticks
Fleas and ticks cause discomfort and can carry disease to your pet and possibly to your family. While these parasites are common, it is our goal that your pet never has to experience the irritation fleas and ticks cause. We will help to customize a plan for your pet based upon their lifestyle and the number and type of pets in your household. We can work with you to set up a preventive plan to avoid infestation of fleas and ticks in your home.
Keep in mind: All flea and tick products are not created equal, in fact some are not effective and even dangerous.
Heartworm prevention for dogs
Heartworm is another very important core of the preventative healthcare for all dogs. Heartworm is a deadly but easily preventable disease that is spread through dogs via bites from infected mosquitoes. We will help you determine which product is the safest and most effective for your dog.
Intestinal parasites in pets
Intestinal parasites are one of the most common conditions seen in both dogs and cats. Pets can contract worms by:
- Ingesting eggs (most commonly stepping in feaces and licking paws later)
- Passed from the mother during gestation
- Consuming an intermediate host like a flea or a small animal
To make matters worse, some parasites can infect human beings, making intestinal parasites a health issue for pets and humans alike.
At Parker & Ace, we don’t just look for parasite eggs in the feces, we screen pets with an advanced PCR test for over 20 common parasites—ensuring that no parasites are missed because they are not shedding eggs at the time of collection. The Parker & Ace veterinary team can prescribe a preventive program to help your pet remain parasite free, and implement a treatment program to fight off any existing infestation.
Tip: You can always call or chat with your Parker & Ace vet team with questions or concerns.
Your pet's oral health is key for maintaining their overall health.
Dental disease is generally gradual and many pets adjust to living with oral pain and will not show signs they are uncomfortable. Because of this, it can be very difficult for owners to know when their pet has dental disease or oral pain.
The unfortunate reality is that significant periodontal disease affects most pets by age 4-5.
For this reason, an important part of the physical exam is an oral exam.
Some of the possible dental conditions which can affect your pet include:
- Bad breath or halitosis
- Tooth loss and broken teeth
- Mouth sores and ulcers
- Gingivitis
- Periodontal disease
What you can do at home
A thorough oral cleaning may be required by your veterinarian, but brushing can help prevent dental disease.
You can also help facilitate good oral health by providing toys and treats formulated to help strengthen and/or clean your pet's teeth and gums.

One of the greatest joys in life is having a cute puppy or kitten to cuddle and take care of. But, it can also be stressful for people who are unsure of how to properly care for their new baby.
It is important for you to come to see us as soon as you get your puppy or kitten so we can set you on the right path as soon as possible both with preventive care and training.
We highly recommend that you bring your new kitten to see us as soon as possible to screen for potential infectious diseases. Please quarantine your kitten until this first visit to avoid exposing other pets (especially in your household).
Plan to spend some extra time during your puppy or kitten’s first visit to Parker & Ace. During this first visit we will give your pet a complete physical exam, update all necessary vaccines, provide deworming medication and spend time educating you on your new puppy or kitten's needs.
Our puppy and kitten health care services include:
- Periodic wellness exams
- Vaccinations
- Puppy and kitten nutrition
- Behavior training
- Potty or litter box training
- Planning for spaying and neutering
