Just as we carefully choose healthcare providers for the humans in our family, it’s equally important to find the right veterinary clinic for our furry family members.

One reliable way to identify these best-in-class veterinary practices is by looking for the AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accreditation.

We are happy and honored to announce that we have officially received our AAHA accreditation. You can learn more about this prestigious recognition below.

What does AAHA accreditation mean?

AAHA accreditation provides pet owners with peace of mind, knowing that their pet will receive the best possible treatment while there.

Established in 1933, the AAHA is a non-profit organization dedicated to setting high standards of excellence in veterinary medicine. AAHA accreditation is voluntary and serves as a benchmark for veterinary practices to demonstrate their commitment to providing optimal care to companion animals.

Why is AAHA accreditation important?

By choosing an AAHA-accredited hospital, you are ensuring that your pet receives the best medical treatment, compassionate care, and attention they deserve.

What are the standards for achieving AAHA accreditation?

AAHA-accredited hospitals and practices must meet rigorous standards across various areas, including medical equipment, facilities, patient care, safety protocols, anesthesia, surgery, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, and more.

AAHA-accredited hospitals and practices have met the below standards—and are regularly evaluated to ensure these standards are maintained:

Patient care:

All pet patient care must be under the authority, supervision, and approval of a licensed veterinarian.

Facility:

The facility (physical or mobile) has appropriate protocols in place for facility usage, maintenance, supplies, and equipment. For example, all major surgeries are performed by a licensed veterinarian in a surgical suite and the surgery suite must be single-purpose and enclosed.

Services:

The practice must be full-service, offer dentistry services under anesthesia as well as quality on-site diagnostic imaging and surgery services.

Select clinical protocols:
  • Anesthesia: Anesthetic agents are administered by a veterinarian or trained practice team member under the supervision of a veterinarian on the premises.
  • A means of assisting ventilation, either manual or mechanical, is readily available and utilized as needed.
  • In addition to a qualified practice team member’s presence, at least one of the following pieces of monitoring equipment is utilized during procedures requiring general anesthesia, including dentistry and radiographic evaluation: Respiratory monitor, pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitor, continuous electrocardiograph (ECG) monitor, esophageal stethoscope, and pain management.
  • An AAHA accredited practice must consider pain assessment as part of every patient evaluation regardless of the presenting complaint and provide pain management based on the anticipated level and duration of pain, including all surgical procedures.

Safety and Comfort:

Accredited hospitals and practices prioritize the well-being and comfort of pets. They maintain clean and well-organized facilities, secure and clean animal-holding areas, implement stringent infection control protocols, and provide appropriate pain management. These measures contribute to a safe and stress-free environment for both pets and their owners.

Communication:

Accredited hospitals and practices emphasize effective communication with pet owners. They take the time to listen, educate, and involve owners in decision-making processes regarding their pet's care. This open dialogue fosters trust and enables pet owners to make informed choices about their pet's health.

Team Expertise:

AAHA-accredited hospitals and practices have access to a vast network of professionals and resources, enabling them to continue to provide exceptional care. The accreditation process promotes staff training and continuing education, ensuring that veterinary professionals are knowledgeable about the latest practices, treatments, and technologies.

Continual Evaluation:

Accredited hospitals and practices are regularly evaluated by AAHA experts to ensure they maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.
